Tents and Timber: Our 6 Day Canoe Trip Didn’t Go As Planned

Home News

Tents and Timber released an hour and a half video of their 6 day canoe trip to Algonquin that didn’t go as planned…

Our 6-day canoe trip in the wilderness didn’t go exactly as planned, but it was an adventure we’ll never forget. We launched our canoe from Squirrel Rapids and spent our first night on the Barron Canyon River, surrounded by calm waters and breathtaking canyon scenery. From there, we paddled and portaged to Opalescent Lake, where a sudden rainstorm made for a wet and wild night at camp.

The next day, we tackled steep and rugged portages to reach Highfalls Lake. Along the way, Jess was stung by a bee, and we were very concerned as a red patch slowly spread down her arm. Every day of the trip, we watched closely and made sure she was okay, but we were able to continue the adventure while staying cautious. Despite this tense moment, the route offered incredible scenery, remote lakes, and peaceful wilderness moments that made every challenge worth it.

At Highfalls Lake, we spent two nights exploring, hiking to the famous natural waterslide, and fishing in the tea stained waters. Each day brought sunshine, laughter, and the beauty of untouched nature. On our final day, we paddled and portaged back to the Barron Canyon River for our last night under the stars before heading home. Once we finished the trip, we went to the hospital to get Jess checked out—but luckily, it was just a bad reaction and she recovered quickly.

This trip was a perfect mix of adventure, challenge, and unexpected surprises. From canoeing through pristine lakes and rugged portage trails to catching fish and witnessing the beauty of Highfalls Lake, every moment was an unforgettable part of our journey.

If you love canoeing, wilderness camping, portaging, adventure travel, and exploring remote lakes, this video is for you. Follow along as we share the highs, the lows, and everything in between from this epic 5-day journey.
